A scammer has stolen $20 million in Tether USDT by using a phishing attack that tricks victims into sending their cryptocurrency to a similar-looking address. The scammer sent a fake zero USDT token transfer from the victim’s account to a phishing address, which the victim believed was the desired destination USDT issuer. Tether blacklisted the wallet immediately, freezing the stolen funds. Zero-transfer phishing scams have become increasingly common in the crypto ecosystem in the past year, with over $40 million in losses reported.
