Katey Park, CEO of the project “MudAi”, which was exhibited at the WebX conference (hereinafter referred to as “WebX”) held in July 2023, responded to an interview with CoinPost.

MudAi is a Metaverse project. Utilizing Web3 and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, we are trying to provide a new space for humanity.

To use the platform, you need to create a MudAi profile. At that time, users create their own customized avatars. This avatar will be issued as an NFT (non-fungible token) on the blockchain.

MudAi was a gold sponsor at last year’s WebX. Park also spoke at WebX and talked about MudAi.

Interview content

In this interview, we were asked to introduce the project once again. Park explains, “To put it simply, it’s a project that allows you to create another electronic version of yourself.”

He also introduced that the project specializes in “reducing current waste” rather than “creating something new.” In other words, he explained that he is working to improve efficiency by having avatars do things other than fulfilling instinctive needs such as sleeping, so that time in a day can be used more effectively.

For example, if AI were to autonomously acquire information or interact with others without human intervention, humans would be able to spend their time doing other things.

Park also said that it can also be used in business, such as having avatars discuss the topic in advance during interviews like this one.

Ultimately, the company plans to develop a system that will allow avatars to live 24 hours a day in the Metaverse and conduct economic activities, even if given only rough instructions.

Utilization of Web3 technology

Next, we asked how MudAi’s project utilizes blockchain and crypto assets (virtual currency).

Mr. Park first explained that he uses Web3 Wallet. He said he introduced a mechanism via Web3 wallet to allow users to log into MudAi’s app without knowing your customer (KYC).

The project’s philosophy is behind this, explaining, “We believe that personality should be tied to intentions, not KYC.” Based on this philosophy, they decided that the Web3 wallet, which does not define individuals, was suitable for the project.

Others have stated that they will utilize virtual currency for economic activities on the Metaverse. He pointed out that economic activity is the exchange of money, and that using fiat currency in the Metaverse could cause legal or ethical problems.

Park argues that by conducting these activities with virtual currency, more things will be entrusted to avatars. He also revealed that he has other plans to use blockchain to manage data.

He explained that in the future, he will launch a metaverse that users can actually use, and will begin collecting data. Park said the app plans to reward users who help collect data.

Difficulties in utilizing AI

Next, we spoke about the current level of AI and the difficulty of utilizing it.

Park revealed that it is extremely difficult with current technology to create AI or pseudo-personalities, which are basically 90% clones of humans. He says that what the MudAi team is trying to develop is “general purpose AI (AGI),” and that OpenAI, which develops ChatGPT, is currently unable to clearly provide AGI.

Furthermore, MudAi plans to run AGI in the metaverse, and points out that there are technical hurdles there as well. He said he is currently at the stage of exploring “what data set can we use to create a personality using AI.”

Park said this difficulty can also affect when questions are asked for datasets and when metaverses are released after they have reached a certain point of development.

About joining WebX

MudAi’s project will also be exhibited at WebX this year. In this interview, I asked him why he decided to join WebX in the first place.

MudAi is a project that was originally developed overseas. Park answered that over two years have passed since development, and that WebX was held just as the project team was thinking of holding conferences and side events overseas, such as in Japan.

Another reason for participating was that the development of the Metaverse was progressing and it was at the stage where a demo could be shown. He also said the purpose was to interact with other companies, the community and investors. Last year at WebX, MudAi said about 150 people visited its booth.

Park said the best part of attending WebX last year was building horizontal connections.

Also, at this year’s WebX, they were eager to show demo versions of things like Metaverse and DEX that were possible. He also said that this year, he would like to not only sponsor side events, but also host side events to further expand the range of exchanges.

About WebX 2024

The second conference, “WebX 2024”, will be held at The Prince Park Tower Tokyo for two days, August 28th (Wednesday) and 29th (Thursday), 2024.

The last WebX event received a response that far exceeded expectations, with 16,500 visitors, 290 speakers, and 372 sponsoring and collaborating companies (including organizations). In addition, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura (at the time), Koichi Hagiuda, Chairman of the Political Affairs Research Council (at the time), Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, and Osaka Prefecture Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura, among others, gave lectures.

WebX’s vision for this year is “to aim to become a bridge between the existing Web 1 and 2 industries and the new Web 3 industry.” In order to realize this vision, not only leading companies and related parties in the Web3 industry from all over the world, but also businesses that do not normally have contact with virtual currencies and blockchain, regulators and promoting ministries not only in Japan but also in Asia. We would like to actively attract more people.

We also plan to actively collaborate with conferences overseas in order to become one of Asia’s leading Web3 promotion hubs.
