After Bitcoin, Twitter now allows tipping with Ether

Social media giant Twitter has added several payment options for its newly launched tip jar feature, and Ether is one of them. The company has now added support for Ether payments by letting users add Ethereum addresses to their profiles.

The move was part of the app’s latest update, which also facilitated the integration of international payment providers Paga, Barter by Flutterwave, and Paytm for the tipping feature.

Have you set up Tips on your profile yet so it's easy for people to show their support?

Twitter introduced the Bitcoin tipping feature in September last year. At the time, the company revealed the use of the Bitcoin lightning network to assure fast and seamless transactions. Now, Ethereum has become the second cryptocurrency supported by Twitter.

An unnamed Twitter spokesperson told TechCrunch:

“Like Twitter, digital currencies operate without global barriers. We’re excited to incorporate Ethereum in addition to Bitcoin payment in Tips, enabling more people to participate in the digital economy with as little friction as possible.”

However, the move is not without its doubts, especially since Twitter has not revealed much about the new offering. While Twitter does not take a cut from the tip, users are concerned that Ethereum gas fees may exceed the amount of tip, bearing in mind the network congestion.

Twitter recently introduced a feature that allowed its “Twitter Blue” subscribers to display their NFTs as profile pictures by allowing users to connect their Ethereum-compatible wallets such as MetaMask or Coinbase Wallet with the app.
