Celebrities have caught on to the NFT trend. Either they are buying them, creating them, or outright building a platform to sell them. Snoop Dogg, Tom Brady, Lewis Capaldi, Lionel Messi, Grimes, Lindsey Lohan, and Stephan Curry are just some of the household names to benefit from the latest craze.
Now, Grammy-award winner John Legend has hopped on the bandwagon with the launch of OurSong, an NFT platform focusing on musicians and entertainers. The American singer-songwriter co-founded the platform with Chris Lin, chairman of Taiwan-based digital music service KKBOX, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, and Matt Cheng, co-founder of venture firm Cherubic Ventures.
OurSong will allow artists to sell their artwork as NFTs and offer buyers exclusive access to features like unreleased music and private chat rooms. John Legend will be the Chief Impact Officer as the platform looks to onboard up-and-coming artists. In an interview with Bloomberg, Legend noted:
“It can be really intimidating for an emerging creative who wants to share their art, their work with the world, share their creativity with the world, but they feel like they can’t possibly do something that’s going to be worth that much money. Some of them are building that up to a place where they’re even making a living off of their art as students.”
Users are not required to own a crypto wallet to buy NFTs, according to CEO Chris Lin. However, fans can only buy the NFTs or ‘Vibes’ via “OurSong Dollars” (OSD), the terms of service states.
Recently retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady launched his NFT platform ‘Autograph’ last July and has already onboarded athletes Naomi Osaka, Tiger Woods, Simone Biles, Tony Hawk, and Usain Bolt as the firm’s board of advisors. Autograph recently raised $170 million in a funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz and Kleiner Perkins.
