Bid for 21YO student’s ‘Soul of Stinus’ NFT exceeds 1000 ETH

Called the ‘Soul of Stinus’, the non-fungible token of a Dutch student’s ‘soul’ already has more than 1040 ETH in offer placed on NFT marketplace OpenSea. At press time, a single Ether was trading at $3,433.71, taking the total value of the NFT to $3.57 million.

On March 30, Stijn van Schaik, a 21-year-old art student from The Netherlands, put up his ‘soul’ for sale as a digital collectible on OpenSea. While no one can sell their soul, the artwork became popular for his creativity.

“Hello person, you are currently looking at a soul. For now it is mine. Once it is fully uploaded on the blockchain, who knows what will happen. What does it mean for a soul to be decentralised? Let us find out,” Schaik has written under his NFT.

The art student has also created a website dedicated to his NFT, which contains a contract that states the permitted uses of the soul. He stated that the purpose of this project is to “introduce people to the possibilities of cryptocurrency.”

Originally put up for auction at a minimum price of 0.1 ETH, the NFT was sold for 0.11 ETH on Thursday. At press time, ‘Soul of Stinus’ is listed on OpenSea with a current bid of 1,040.25 ETH.

NFTs saw huge demand in 2021. As per the latest data by DappRadar, the market for non-fungible tokens hit $41 billion in 2021, as opposed to just $94.9 million the year before.
