Binance Charity donates $2.5M to support UNICEF’s Ukraine war relief efforts

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has now pledged another $2.5 million to help with Ukraine’s war relief efforts. Its charity foundation, Binance Charity, has donated $2.5 million in crypto to UNICEF in aiding children and their families in Ukraine.

In an official statement, UNICEF acknowledged the donation made by Binance and said the contribution will go towards the “organization’s life-saving work for children and their families in Ukraine and in hosting countries.”

The organization will use the funds in providing safe water, healthcare, education, and protection; providing health, hygiene, and emergency education supplies; providing support to mobile teams offering child protection services; and more.

Changpeng Zhao, founder and CEO of Binance, said in the announcement:

“We’re grateful for our ongoing collaboration with UNICEF, which with the support of the Binance community, provides emergency relief to help ease some of the suffering these children and their families are facing.”

The fund allocated came from a designated $10 million Binance pledged to contribute last week amidst Russia’s invasion of its neighbor. In addition, the crypto exchange also launched a crowdfunding project, called “Humanity First – Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund,” to help with the same effort.

So far, the Binance crowdfunding project has raised nearly $6.8 million from 867 donors.
