Binance.US and its founder, major shareholder and chairman Changpeng Zhao are considering reducing Zhao’s ownership of the exchange, according to The Information. reported.

Zhao is considering selling a stake he has held since last summer.

According to The Information, Binance US executives have considered the possibility that Zhao’s stake sale could soften the stance of U.S. regulators. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) sued Binance and Zhao in March.

Zhao holds Canadian citizenship, but his exact place of residence is unknown. A Binance US spokeswoman declined to comment.
