On the 27th, UAE-based game startup Farcana has accepted a strategic investment from Animoca Brands, which promotes gaming and metaverse digital asset IP. It was announced on .

Farcana is a free-to-play team-based strategy shooter built with Unreal Engine 5 and features a reward design with a Bitcoin prize pool. We also plan to introduce Bitcoin Ordinal as a pioneer of Web3 games.

An initial playtest held in Dubai in June 2023 attracted over 40,000 users, and a second open playtest is currently underway from November to December 2023.

The new funds are planned to be used primarily to strengthen and integrate Farcana within the Bitcoin ecosystem. The project is preparing for token issuance and full game release early next year.

Web3 industry expansion in Dubai

Animoca Brands, a leading company in the Web3 industry, has been collaborating with Farcana on tokenomics and go-to-market strategy since Q2 2023.

Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, praised Farcana’s progress, saying, “We have been working with Farcana over the past year and have been impressed with their development and expansion. Animoca Brands continues its activities in the MENA region and recently announced a strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia’s smart city project NEOM.

Commenting on the strategic investment from Animoca Brands, Ilman Shazhaev, Founder and CEO of Farcana, said: “This strategic investment is definitely an important milestone for Farcana. We are focused on building and delivering one of the best in the world and are very excited to bring it to market next year.”

Earlier this month, the government of the Emirate of Dubai announced a new program called the Dubai Program for Gaming 2033, which aims to become the center of the world’s gaming industry. The program aims to strengthen the UAE and Dubai’s digital economy, with an ambitious goal of creating 30,000 new jobs and increasing the emirate’s GDP by approximately $1 billion by 2033.

The program has attracted more than 250 applications from the UAE and around the world across four key areas: gaming, virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI) and Web3. Farcana sees its project as a huge opportunity, as it aligns with this vision.
