Three models of Bitmain mining machines account for 76% of the computing power (hashrate) of the Bitcoin network. According to a report released by Coinmetrics on June 13.
Antminer S19j Pro accounts for 34.3% of hashrate and S19 28.1%, making it the most used mining machine on the Bitcoin network since March 2021. The S19 XP also accounts for 13.7%. On the other hand, rival MicroBT’s M50 is said to be below detectable numbers.
The report used a new technique to identify mining machines used in the Bitcoin network by tracing the tracks of different machines. Different models consume different amounts of power to produce a given amount of computing power.
The introduction of new, more efficient mining machines has also improved the network’s energy efficiency by about 60% since July 1, 2018.
The average computing power consumed by the Bitcoin network is now 33.6 (J/TH), compared to 89.3 Joules/terahash (J/TH) on July 1, 2018. However, “the rate of reduction was greater in the past,” the report notes.
The Bitcoin network also consumes 13.4 gigawatts (GW) of power, 13% less than the commonly known figure published by the Cambridge Center for Alternative Finance (CCAF). found.
