Apparently, there is no such thing as too much. After revealing its native token ‘ApeCoin’ last week, Yuga Labs is launching a metaverse for Bored Ape Yacht Club. “See you on the Otherside in April. Powered by @apecoin,” the tweet read, announcing the news Saturday.

The creator behind the current most popular NFT collection has released a short trailer featuring NFTs from the Bored Ape and Mutant Ape series, along with the newly acquired CryptoPunks and Meebits. Yuga Labs recently acquired the intellectual property rights of CryptoPunks and Meebits NFT collections from Larva Labs.

While details of the new metaverse project, called the ‘Otherside’, are still vague, the startup plans to power the new project via ApeCoin, the native token of BAYC released by ApeCoin DAO last week. The coin is already listed on some of the most popular crypto exchanges, including Coinbase and Binance.

The project is likely planning to release a gaming-centric virtual world in partnership with Animoca Brands, a deal both the companies announced in December last year.

“Animoca Brands is excited to announce that we’ll be adopting @ApeCoin for the secret project we’ve been developing with @BoredApeYC,” Animoca Brands had tweeted two days before Yuga Labs revealed metaverse plans.

Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) is currently one of the most expensive digital collections out there. Created by Yuga Labs in April last year, the collection comprises 10,000 NFTs featuring ‘bored-looking apes’ in various avatars with distinctive qualities.
