Announcing the news via Twitter, Cash App said users can now “buy tacos, tip your favorite Twitter comedian, or send a friend money abroad—anywhere that accepts lightning.”

While rumors of the latest offering were getting around the past few months, it reached its highlight after the company announced through a notification that it has added the Lightning Network.

Cash App was able to integrate the layer 2 technology by using Spiral’s Lightning Development Kit, a type of Software Development Kit that allows developers to effortlessly integrate Bitcoin’s Lightning Network into their applications and platforms. Spiral is another subsidiary of Block that focuses on open-source Bitcoin development.

Cash App users can utilize the lightning network by scanning a Lightning QR using their phones, confirming the payment details, and tapping on pay. In addition, users can make on-chain payments by enabling transactions to on-chain BTC addresses.
