Bitcoin (BTC) traded around $97,000, experiencing marginal losses, while altcoins such as Ethereum (ETH), XRP, and Solana (SOL) struggled to gain traction.
The global cryptocurrency market cap was at $3.14 trillion, a 0.80% drop in the past 24 hours. Despite the decline, trading activity surged, with a 20.09% increase in 24-hour market volume, now at $88.6 billion.
Market uncertainty spiked after President Trump announced plans to implement new 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum, triggering a dip across various cryptocurrencies.
The markets will also be looking at the upcoming US Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation data.
The CPI release scheduled later this week is expected to offer critical insight into inflation trends, which could shape the Fed’s rate cut plans.
Last week’s US jobs report showed signs of a cooling labor market, fueling optimism about potential rate cuts.
This optimism briefly pushed Bitcoin past the $100,000 mark.
Bitcoin (BTC) price today
Bitcoin’s price slipped 0.3% over the past 24 hours, settling at $96,863.45. Its intraday low and high ranged between $94,745.26 and $97,297.28.
Bill Barhydt, the CEO of Abra Global, has offered an optimistic outlook on the future of Bitcoin and major altcoins.
In a recent X post, Barhydt highlighted his base case for Bitcoin, which is currently trading around $96,500, suggesting it could rise significantly to $350,000.
Bitcoin’s dominance edged higher to 60.68%, up by 0.16% over the day, even as its price faced pressure.
Ethereum (ETH) price today
Ethereum, on the other hand, witnessed an around 1% decline, trading at $2,636.81.
Its intraday low and high ranged from $2,530.44 to $2,673.22.
While the short-term action remains bearish, long-term optimism for Ethereum persists, supported by recent regulatory approvals and historical resilience.
XRP and SOL price today
XRP faced one of the steepest declines among top cryptocurrencies, dropping 4% to $2.39.
Its intraday range hovered between $2.32 and $2.50.
Despite market optimism stemming from XRP ETF filings and other developments, the asset struggles to recover above the $3 mark.
The coin’s market cap fell to $138 billion, losing its place as the third biggest cryptocurrency by market cap.
Solana (SOL) also fell 2%, trading at $201.77, with an intraday range of $194.24 to $207.27.
The coin’s price action mirrored the overall market trend, reflecting heightened vulnerability to external pressures.

Litecoin (LTC) leads the top gainers with a 5.79% increase in the last 24 hours, now trading at $113.34.
Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (FET) has climbed by 4.36%, reaching $0.781.
Injective (INJ) saw a 4.09% rise, currently valued at $14.67.
Bittensor (TAO) experienced a 3.49% gain, trading at $377.51, while Aptos (APT) rounded out the top gainers with a 3.32% increase, now priced at $6.08.
