Uniswap Labs, which is involved in the development of the major DEX (distributed exchange) “Uniswap”, announced on the 13th that mobile wallets can now be downloaded on Apple’s iOS devices.

This wallet is a self-managed mobile wallet that announced its release plan in March. Until now, users were limited, but now anyone on iOS can use Uniswap’s mobile wallet. On the other hand, it seems that there are restrictions on the countries where it can be used, so even if you search on an iOS device from Japan, this wallet will not be displayed.

In this announcement, Uniswap Labs pointed out that many people find it difficult to use self-managed wallets from the beginning. And based on this issue, it is said that it has been made simple and easy to use.

Uniswap’s mobile wallet allows seamless swaps across Ethereum (ETH), Polygon (MATIC), Arbitrum (ARB) and Optimism (OP) networks. On the other hand, the video introducing the wallet explains that it “supports multi-chains such as these networks”.

In addition, it is also possible to search for tokens and NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and use security functions that utilize iCloud. You can also buy crypto assets (virtual currency) with fiat currency for a fee of 2.55%. Uniswap Labs pointed out that other popular wallets charge a 5% fee, and also appealed for its low fees.

According to overseas media, users from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and France will be able to use this wallet. Uniswap Labs says it will launch in other countries as soon as Apple allows it.

Uniswap Labs also replied to the tweet with an “understood” sign, with some people asking for an Android version in the comments section of Twitter.

Apple’s response

Apple has been criticized for its policy of releasing cryptocurrency apps. For example, major US cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced in December last year that it had disabled the ability to send NFTs on its Coinbase wallet for iOS.

The reason why it was not possible to send is because Apple did not allow the release of the latest version of the application unless this function was disabled. Apple is said to have requested to be able to collect a 30% fee through in-app purchases from the gas cost (transaction fee) for NFT transactions.
