Decentralized social media startup Nostr has launched a Twitter-like app called Damus on Apple’s App Store.
Nostr is an open protocol that aims to build a censorship-resistant global SNS. Some commentators say it could replace Elon Musk’s Twitter. Nostr is said to be popular with bitcoiners, partly because it supports payments via the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who donated about 14 bitcoins (equivalent to about $245,000 at the time) to Nostr last year to fund its development, said on January 31 that Damus’ App Store debut was an “open protocol mile. Stone,” he praised. As of this writing, the tweet has been viewed 2.1 million times.
