Elon Musk, the reigning owner of Twitter, has brought in engineers from his other companies to evaluate the code that powers the microblogging site, according to CNBC.  Musk’s first few days leading Twitter have already proven to be incredibly turbulent, as was to be expected.

More than 50 Tesla employees, two Boring Company employees, and one Neuralink employee have been hired to review code on the social media platform. Current Twitter employees have told CNBC that they are working 12-hour shifts seven days a week to meet Musk’s review deadlines without being informed of their pay or job security. 

While this is going on, Musk is apparently making Twitter’s current staff work 12-hour days to create a verification system for him, or else. The Washington Post reported that Musk also intends to let go of 25% of the company’s workers. Most likely, the reductions are an attempt to minimize expenses.

One Tesla employee who was not involved in the code review for Twitter told The Washington Post that the company’s engineers would have difficulty accurately evaluating the existing code on the social platform because it uses large-scale distributed systems, which are outside of their area of expertise.

Earlier on Tuesday, Musk revealed a new plan of “Twitter Blue” that would cost $8 a month and give subscribers priority in responses, mentions, and searches. “Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. The Twitter Blue membership became publicly available over a year ago as a way to read articles from some publishers without ads and make other changes to the app, such as changing the color of the app’s icon on the home screen.
