Ethereum’s much-hyped event – the Merge – is now just around the corner. In order to make sure that everything goes to plan, Ethereum has quadrupled the rewards promised to hackers who discover vulnerabilities related to the Merge.
Between now and September 8, discovered bugs deemed to be a critical risk will net a bounty of up to $1 million. Finding high-risk bugs will get you $200,000, medium-risk bugs $40,000, and low-risk bugs $8,000.
The Merge is set to finally take place between September 10 and September 20. With it, Ethereum will migrate to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. Apart from its other advantages, staking is expected to consume less than 1% of the energy consumption associated with the proof-of-work mining model.
