Ethereum’s “Denkun” is running on second testnet ─ Only one mainnet remains | CoinDesk JAPAN

Dencun, the largest Ethereum blockchain upgrade since early 2023, is now live on the second of three testnets, announcing the launch of the long-awaited project Dencun and its “Protodunk Sharding” feature. One step closer to reality.

Protodunk Sharding is designed to reduce the cost of layer 2 blockchain transactions and make data availability cheaper through the introduction of new compartmentalized spaces for data called “blobs”. There is. As the number of Layer 2 chains on the Ethereum blockchain is rapidly expanding, this upgrade is seen as a key element of the ecosystem roadmap to support growth.

The Denkun upgrade on the testnet Sepolia began at 22:51 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on the 30th and was finalized at 23:10 the same day.

Sepolia is the second of three testnets running Denkun’s simulations. Earlier this month, Denkun was tested on the Goerli testnet, but it initially failed to finalize.

Next week on February 7th, Denkun will launch on Ethereum’s final testnet, Holesky. After that, the developers are expected to set a date to activate Denkun on the main blockchain.

Denkun was originally expected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2023. This is the biggest upgrade for the Ethereum blockchain since the Shapella upgrade last March, which enabled withdrawals of staked Ethereum (stETH).
