Each layer 2 network of the Ethereum blockchain will benefit from the upcoming major upgrade “Shanghai” or “Shapella”, according to the top executive of crypto manager Runa Digital Assets. COO Max Williams said.

“Layer 2 is going to be a big payoff,” he said during an appearance on CoinDesk TV on Thursday about the upgrade scheduled for April 12th.

Williams has published a report on the upgrade. Layer 2 is “already trending well,” according to the report, and the upgrade will give developers time to “focus their attention on improving the user experience (UX) at Layer 2.”

Chapela will be the final upgrade in the Ethereum blockchain’s Proof of Stake (PoS) transition. Withdrawals of staked Ethereum (ETH) will be possible, Williams said. Furthermore, it can be expected to have the effect of lowering transaction fees and improving transaction processing capacity.
