Bitcoin mining company Hive Blockchain announced on January 13 that it has deployed its first machine powered by Intel’s Blockscale ASIC.

Hive President and COO Aydin Kilic previously said that the 5,800 machines delivered by the end of 2022 will total between 638 petahashes per second (PH/s) and 754 PH/s, or It is said that each unit will demonstrate computing power of 110 terahash/second (TH/second) to 130 TH/second. These numbers fall short of Bitmain’s latest models, such as the Antminer S19 XP and S19 Pro+ Hydro.
Hive also does not disclose the power efficiency of its machines, a key metric for mining companies facing power cost issues. In April 2022, Intel announced a power efficiency of 26 joules per terahash (J/T), which, while not as good as Bitmain’s S19 XP series, is on par with or better than the current mainstream models on the market.
More than 1,500 Blockscale-powered machines are already in operation at mining facilities in Canada and Sweden, Hive said, meeting its envisaged targets. It said it had originally ordered 13,000 machines for 2022, but cut back to “expand its business in response to the bear market.”
