For Warner Chappell Music, which manages music copyrights, it’s the first NFT deal for songs that have never been released on record, CD or digital.

On April 14, Gala Music’s new platform (MVP edition) will release an unreleased version of the 1983 hit “Let’s Dance” as a digital collector’s item, marking the 40th anniversary of the album of the same name. It’s a memorial.

Recorded 19 years after the original was released, this work features a new arrangement in collaboration with David Bowie’s producer Dvoskin.

According to Dvoskin, Bowie’s estate administrators initially turned down the offer to release NFT, but changed their minds after discovering emails about Bowie’s 2002 recordings. He said he was an avid Bowie fan and wanted a more dreamy, electronic version of the song rather than a copy of the original, and that this release aptly captures Bowie’s intentions.

Initial proceeds from this digital collector’s item will also be donated to MusiCares(R), a leading music charity that provides health and wellness services to the music community.

What is Gala Music?

Gala Music launched in February 2022 as a sister project of the decentralized game platform Gala Games (currently in beta). We aim to provide artists and fans with a new music experience by utilizing blockchain technology and NFT.

Dvoskin explained why he chose Gala Music for this release, saying, “I felt Gala Music was the first platform that was sure to support artists. It was a great time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ‘Let’s Dance’. I’m excited,” he says.

GALA tokens are not necessarily required to use Gala Music. You can purchase music NFT with ETH and credit card. New tracks are released every week and are priced at around 13,000 yen ($100) per song on a US dollar basis.

Fans can not only listen to music for free, but also own their favorite songs and artists as a collection. Additionally, every time someone listens to a song you own, you will be rewarded with GALA, Gala Music’s native token.

Gala Music is migrating from the Ethereum (ETH) chain to Gala’s own L1 blockchain (GYRI). In order to pair music NFTs with nodes and receive rewards, it is necessary to operate from the account page of the official website and bridge the music NFTs owned to Gala’s L1 blockchain (GYRI).

At the time of writing, only a bridge to GYRI is possible, and a bridgeback from GYRI to ETH has not yet been introduced.

Gala Music has not issued its own tokens at this time, but early users can get “BEAMS” as a reward, which can be converted into its own tokens in the future. At the time of writing, by holding BEAMS for an artist, it is possible to support the artist and enjoy limited benefits such as the pre-sale arrow list of the song NFT.

The upcoming All Access Fan Store will feature exclusive items, offers, access passes and more from Gala and its partners.
