Guest introduction
The 6th GM Radio will be streamed on February 16th (Thursday) from 12:30 on the “CP_Global” Twitter space.
This time we invite Scroll co-founder Sandy Peng as our guest. The company is a company that develops L2 solutions for crypto assets (virtual currency) Ethereum (ETH). Its globally distributed members work with the goal of improving the Ethereum network while maintaining transparency and decentralization.
Scroll’s network has now launched to the “Pre-Alpha Testnet”. After going through the “Alpha testnet”, we plan to launch the mainnet.
The company raised $30 million (about 3.9 billion yen at the current exchange rate) in a Series A round last April. The funding was first reported exclusively by blockchain media outlet The Block.
The round was led by Polychain Capital and backed by Bain Capital Crypto, Robot Ventures, Geometry DAO and members of the Ethereum Foundation. He explained that the funds raised will be used to increase the number of team members and develop the testnet.
Ethereum L2 development race
The L2 solution developed by the company is named “Scroll”, which is the same as the company name. By utilizing a technology called ZK rollup, transactions are processed outside the Ethereum blockchain to speed up processing and reduce fees.

One of the reasons why Scroll is attracting attention is that it is trying to give ZK rollup equivalence with Ethereum’s virtual machine (EVM). Equivalence means closer to EVM than compatible.
ZK Rollup is technically superior, but it has been difficult to make it compatible with EVM. Without compatibility, app developers cannot easily deploy existing services on Ethereum on Scroll.
Similar technology is being developed by other projects such as Polygon (MATIC) and zkSync, and competition is fierce. On the other hand, some say that Scroll is the closest to EVM.

The theme of this distribution is “ZK competition in EVM equivalence”, and we plan to ask questions about differences from other L2 solutions, the need for tokens in decentralization, and future plans.
