Google Play Officially Approves Use of NFTs, Updates App Store Policy

App store Google Play announced today that it has updated its policies to provide new ways to trade blockchain-based digital content within apps and games.

The aim is to rebuild traditional games with content that users can own, and to create NFT (non-fungible token) rewards to deepen relationships with users. He said he hopes creative app experiences will evolve and be able to better support developers’ businesses.

While this will allow the official use of digital assets such as NFTs, Google Play points out that maintaining user trust is the most important for blockchain technology to continue to develop. Each app was asked to be transparent about the digital assets it tokenized.

For example, if an app or game sells digital assets or allows users to earn tokenized digital assets, the developer must clearly disclose this. It also states that, from a user protection standpoint, do not promote or exaggerate potential rewards from playing or trading.

They also demanded that they follow other rules, such as gambling. Apps that do not meet the requirements are prohibited from introducing a mechanism that does not clearly show the value of NFTs at the time of purchase. This means that we should not introduce a method called “loot box” that randomly gives items, such as what is called “gacha”.

Google Play is slowly softening its stance on blockchain and cryptocurrencies. In 2018, it banned the provision of cryptocurrency mining apps. Also, in 2020, a puzzle game app that could earn Bitcoin (BTC) was temporarily removed from the store and made available for download again.
