Helium, a decentralized wireless network, has introduced a new service that enables businesses and public Wi-Fi providers to monetize their existing infrastructure.
The Helium team, whose project is powered by the Solana blockchain, says the new solution marks a significant step toward expanding community-driven wireless coverage.
Helium’s announcement could be a major boost to the HNT token.
Helium targets growth with new Helium Plus service
On July 31, 2025, Helium made a huge announcement.
The platform announced the launch of Helium Plus, a transformative service designed to integrate existing Wi-Fi networks into its people-powered Helium Network.
According to a blog post, the project aims to eliminate the need for businesses to invest in specialized hardware, such as physical Hotspots, as they look to join the network.
This is a previous requirement businesses had to comply with before contributing to the network.
Introducing Helium Plus: Empowering Everyone to Participate ➕ Turn your existing Wi-Fi into a revenue stream! Instantly join the people-powered Network with a simple software upgrade – no new hardware needed. Expand coverage & earn. Read the news: blog.helium.com/helium-plus-51…
Helium Plus removes this need, allowing venues such as coffee shops or shopping centers to join the network via a simple software upgrade.
This tweak applies to users’ Wi-Fi routers, with a seamless integration set to significantly lower the barriers that have impacted participation.
“Helium Plus represents a major leap forward in how businesses can contribute to the Helium Network,” said Mario Di Dio, general manager at Helium. “It offers instant, low-cost wireless integration, reducing infrastructure costs while creating new revenue streams and improving connectivity. The simplicity of our process is key to unlocking the full potential of this expansion.”
Helium says the new feature will accelerate growth and availability of reliable Wi-Fi coverage.
Key markets in this community-driven wireless initiative are the United States and Mexico.
Coverage and reduced costs
Helium Plus aims to enable a broader range of businesses to provide wireless coverage and share in the network’s success. Monetizing these offerings can allow businesses to earn HNT or US dollars.
Helium’s payouts for carrier offload data were $300k in June, with rewards increasing by 20% month-over-month.
In April this year, Helium revealed a strategic collaboration with American communications giant AT&T.
The partnership targeted bringing Helium’s decentralized wireless network to AT&T subscribers in the US, with AT&T customers able to tap into Helium for community-built Wi-Fi connection.
Helium and AT&T said at the time the goal was to expand coverage and bolster mobile service.
“Beyond creating value for individual businesses, Helium Plus is designed to supercharge the entire Helium ecosystem. It directly fuels the Helium Network’s powerful carrier offload capability, which enables major US carriers to route customer data through The People’s Network, enhancing their coverage and cutting operational costs,” the platform wrote.
