Personal AI (artificial intelligence) company Inflection AI announced on the 29th that it has raised $1.3 billion (about 190 billion yen) from investors led by Microsoft and Nvidia.

The money will be used to develop the conversational AI “Pi” that the company launched in May this year.

Other investors in the round include former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Bill Gates and LinkedIn founder Reed Hoffman. Inflection AI has raised a total of $1.525 billion so far. There are also reports that the company’s valuation is as high as $4 billion (570 billion yen).

Inflection AI is an AI development company founded in 2022 by Mustafa Suleiman, co-founder of AI research institute DeepMind, and Karen Simonyan, founder of AI technology company Vision Factory, which was acquired by Google.

Pi (Personal Intelligence), which the company released in May this year, is designed to provide infinite knowledge based on people’s individual interests and needs. In addition to chatbot AIs like ChatGPT performing tasks and answering questions, Pi aims to provide deeper conversations.

Deploying one of the world’s largest AI clusters

Inflection AI was established as a “Public Benefit Corporation (PBC)” with the aim of pursuing the common good of humanity as a whole. The 35-person project team includes experienced AI industry experts from DeepMind, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Meta, and more.

OpenAI, which also develops ChatGPT, was founded as a non-profit organization in 2016 by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Y Combinator CEO Sam Altman. At the time of its founding, it attracted attention by attracting a billion dollar donation from Silicon Valley influential people. In 2018, Musk stepped down as an executive at OpenAI.

Inflection AI is currently building the world’s largest AI cluster with partners Coreweave and Nvidia. The cluster leverages 22,000 NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs to provide the computational resources needed to train and infer deep learning models. This GPU specializes in AI processing and deep learning tasks, demonstrating high computational power and efficiency.
