The smooth execution of the Ethereum blockchain major upgrade “Shanghai” has so far fueled institutional interest in staking.

Institutional Ethereum (ETH) staking service providers have already seen inflows almost triple in April compared to the previous month, said Michiel Milanovic, an analyst at ethereum developer ConsenSys. told CoinDesk. About 80% of the inflow came after Shanghai on April 12.

After Shanghai, ETH climbed to an 11-month high of $2,100, reversing earlier fears that the ability to de-stake would create significant selling pressure and drive the price down. However, it has since fallen below $1,900 as the overall market has fallen. Around 10:00 on the 24th Japan time around $ 1880.

The ability to withdraw also mitigated the liquidity risk associated with lockups that had previously shunned some investors.

“We expect the staking rate to increase naturally after the staking validator withdraws,” said Milanovic.

Staking services for institutional investors are booming

According to a survey by institutional staking service Kiln, 68% of investors said they plan to start staking or increase their staking after Shanghai. The survey was conducted in February before Shanghai.

Kiln co-founder and COO Thomas de Phuoc said traditional financial institutions (TradFi) are also showing growing interest in staking.

“Our sales team points to 60% more deals in progress, including from traditional financial institutions, compared to the same period last year.” We are discussing with the service holding company.” (Mr. Huok)

Kiln’s post-Shanghai new staking amounted to 24,640 ETH (about $47 million), according to a Dune dashboard compiled by analysts at crypto venture fund Dragonfly.

Similarly, staked.us staked 58,592 ETH ($111 million), more than double the 26,667 ETH (about $51 million) that was withdrawn.

However, Milanovic said it is too early to draw any definite conclusions as some staking providers have not yet enabled withdrawals.
