Investment survey of 18-19 year olds ── Investment is possible without parental consent by lowering the adult age: Bitbank

Bitbank, which operates a crypto-asset (virtual currency) exchange, will allow 18- to 19-year-olds to start investing without parental consent as the age of adulthood is lowered in April 2022. Conducted a web questionnaire survey on management and investment. On January 12th, we announced the aggregate results of 496 responses.

About 23% have started investing

In response to the question, “Have you actually started asset management or investing as the age of adulthood has been lowered?” 23.4% answered “Yes” and 76.6% answered “No.”

Stocks, FX, time deposits, and cryptocurrencies top the list

About half of the respondents who answered “yes” to the above mentioned “stocks” as an investment target, followed by “time deposits”, “FX” and “cryptocurrencies”.

Less than 100,000 yen is more than 70%

The amounts actually invested by the respondents who answered “yes” are as follows, with less than 100,000 yen accounting for more than 70%.

Yen depreciation is one of the reasons

When asked “Why did you start asset management and investment?”, the most common response was “Because I think my money will increase.” About 20% cited the “weak yen” as the reason.

Bitcoin is popular as a crypto asset (virtual currency)

When asked, “I ask people who have invested in cryptocurrencies. What cryptocurrencies have you invested in?” Bitcoin (BTC) was the most popular, followed by Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Ethereum (ETH).
