JR Kyushu NFT launch

Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) officially launched its own NFT (non-fungible token) sales site on the 19th. The new service “JR Kyushu NFT” adopts Aster Network (ASTR), a public blockchain from Japan.

The purpose of JR Kyushu NFT is to create various points of contact with users and propose new value and new charm of Kyushu. It plans to provide NFT content through its own sales site and distribute NFTs that commemorate and prove the experience of “visiting, riding, and using”. The NFTs acquired by JR Kyushu NFT are designed so that “owning” leads to benefits.

As part of the new service, the first sales product of the “Kamome Series” has been lined up. Six types of trains that have been operated in Kyushu so far have been commercialized and sold as NFTs in video (slide movie) format for 3,300 yen each, limited to 100 each. If you purchase all 6 types of Kamome NFT, you will get a “Special Kamome NFT” as a bonus.

At JR Kyushu NFT, you can purchase NFT content with Japanese yen instead of crypto assets (virtual currency 9), and you can easily check your collection with a wallet linked to the sales site. It is compatible with Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge browsers.

New users can set up an ID and password on the site and create a “ValueBase Wallet” provided by Japan’s CryptoLab. Also, users who are already using a major cryptocurrency wallet called Metamask can use this service by changing their network ID to 592 (ASTR).

What is Aster Network

The Aster Network adopted by JR Kyushu NFT is a public blockchain that originated in Japan but is being developed internationally. It supports Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and WebAssembly (WASM), and provides an environment that makes it easy for Web2 and Web3 developers to build dApps (decentralized applications).

In the spring of 2010, Hakuhodo, in collaboration with Calbee and CryptoGames, conducted an NFT chips campaign for “Calbee Potato Chips with NFT” and attracted attention.

Sota Watanabe, CEO of Stake Technologies, which leads the development of Aster Network, launched Startale Labs, a distributed web (Web3) service development company, in January 2011. Startale Labs started a Web3-related startup support business in collaboration with Sony Network Communications Inc. in March.
