Lamborghini to release first NFT collection in February

Italian luxury carmaker Lamborghini is set to release its first NFT collection Lamborghini “Space Time Memory” next month. The company has collaborated with Swiss artist Fabian Oefner to launch the five-piece collection.

In addition, Lamborghini has also partnered with NFT PRO and auction house Sotheby’s to realize the auction sale. It has joined the likes of some of the major brands, such as Adidas, Nike, Gucci, Burberry, Reddit, Formula 1, and more, who have already jumped the NFT bandwagon.

Lamborghini’s NFT collection, however, is unique as it would also offer some tangible artwork along with the digital collectibles in the auction sale. The physical artworks are pieces of carbon fiber “space keys” sent to the International Space Station by Lamborghini in 2020.

According to the announcement, the “space keys” will be held in a special case etched with individual QR codes that directly take holders to the accompanying digital artwork. However, the company will not offer cryptocurrencies as means of payment and will accept only traditional fiat currencies.

Talking about the digital artwork, the NFTs contain five slightly different images of a Lamborghini Ultimate shooting off into space like a spaceship with some of the car parts trailing behind. The artwork was not produced using a CG, and the NFTs were created using 1,500 individual photographs of the vehicle’s parts which were foregathered digitally.

Oefner said in a press release:

“The car and its components, something physical and real, gets transformed into something digital that never existed. And the carbon fiber piece, something physical and tangible, serves as a key to access the digital experience of the art piece. In both cases, there is metamorphosis from the physical to the digital world.”
