Distribution of “Taira-kun SBT” started

From June 23rd, distribution of the digital membership card “SBT (Soul Bound Token)” that can be obtained by becoming a member of the Liberal Democratic Party has started for a limited time. This is the first time for a Japanese parliamentarian to do so.

“Taira-kun SBT” functions as a cheering party membership card for Masaaki Taira, a member of the House of Representatives, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party’s Web3 project team. Only those who complete the party membership application during the distribution period will be given the opportunity to acquire SBT.

However, only 1,000 of these tokens will be issued, and distribution will be on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, applicants are limited to Tokyo residents who have applied for membership of the Liberal Democratic Party through eKYC (online identity verification).

Masaaki Taira, a member of the House of Representatives, is currently conducting a demonstration experiment to introduce eKYC to the process of joining the party. And as part of this attempt, he took a new step by issuing “Taira-kun SBT” as a membership card to his own cheering party members.

SBT is a special NFT (Non-Fungible Token) based on blockchain technology and has the property of being impossible to transfer to others. Through this “Taira-kun SBT”, those who acquire it will be eligible to participate in a special event scheduled to be held in September this year.

Gasless issuance

This new initiative will be implemented as a joint venture between Blockchain Strategy and Policy Institute Inc. and IndieSquare Inc. For the issuance and distribution of SBT, the web3 platform “HAZAMA BASE” provided by IndieSquare, which can issue NFTs and generate decentralized organizations (DAOs), will be used.

In addition, there is no blockchain fee (gas fee) required for issuing “Taira-kun SBT”, and it can be issued without gas. It takes a minimum of one week, and usually two weeks, from application to the Liberal Democratic Party to issuance of party membership cards.
