Melania Trump to launch POTUS NFT collection ‘celebrating’ Trump’s presidency

Former first lady Melania Trump is rolling out another NFT collection despite controversies surrounding the first one. According to a statement posted on Twitter Thursday, Melania Trump is offering ‘POTUS NFT Collection’ on President’s day, ie, February 2021 to ‘celebrate’ her husband Donald Trump’s tenure at the White House.

Per the statement released, the NFT collection will include “10 original pieces of digital artwork highlighting iconic moments from President Trump’s Administration.” Trump’s Fourth of July visit to Mount Rushmore and Christmas at the White House, will be some of the ‘iconic moments’ depicted in the new collection.

The limited-edition collection comprises 10,000 NFTs minted on the Solana blockchain, priced at $50 each. The 10 digital items will have editions ranging between 250 to 1,750 for sale. In addition, buyers of NFTs will not know which item(s) they have bought until after the purchase, to keep an “element of surprise.”

Melania Trump said in the press release:

“I am proud to expand upon my NFT platform and am honored to be able to recognize important moments in our Nation’s history. I look forward to collaborating with others to offer truly special, authentic parts of US history.”

Melania Trump’s latest foray in the NFTs came just a day after a Bloomberg report claimed that she bought back her own first NFT offering “Head of State Collection, 2022” released in January this month. Blockchain transaction history hinted that the winning wallet of the auction was someone who organized the auction in the first place.

That means either the NFT was bought back Melania Trump herself or it was purchased by a creator of the project. Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Office of Melania Trump denied the claims. “The nature of Blockchain protocol is entirely transparent. Accordingly, the public can view each transaction on the Blockchain. The transaction was facilitated on behalf of a third-party buyer,” they noted.
