Misfits Gaming Group has announced a multi-year partnership with the Tezos blockchain. Misfits plans to launch blockchain games through the Tezos (XTZ/USD) network through this partnership.
Misfits partners with Tezos
Tezos will become the official blockchain partner for Misfits. The deal will include promoting the brand on the jerseys of players to create engagement and education among fans.
Misfits is a platform that competes in some of the leading games such as League of Legends and Call of Duty. The platform will rebrand the MSF/IO gaming incubator platform valued at $10 million into the MSF Tezos Incubator Hub. The incubator program will support esports startups and those building on the Tezos blockchain.
Will Pazos, the Senior Vice President at Block Born, also added that the platform will work with Tezos to launch Block Born. This project seeks to give Misfits a position in the booming blockchain gaming sector.
Block Born will involve Tezos developers creating crypto games, hosting tournaments, and supporting professional players. The developers will focus on games that do not have a “pay-to-win” feature.
Block Born will use the technology provided by Snickerdoodle Labs to show how the raised funds will be used in game development. Pazos noted that the platform would allow Misfits to venture deeper into blockchain gaming and make it more competitive than the other esports platforms.
Pazos added,
We try to find a unique opportunity to do something. We like the idea of blockchain, but we think there needs to be a heavier focus on competitive games.
A boom in blockchain games
Games revolving around cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have become quite popular over the past year. The trend was triggered by Axie Infinity, a play-to-earn platform based on the Ethereum blockchain. Axie Infinity has attracted many players globally who earn rewards in the form of Smooth Love Potion (SLP) tokens.
Other popular blockchain-based games include The Sandbox and Gala Games. The two have become quite popular, which has been exhibited in the gains that their native cryptocurrencies have made over the past year.
