High-profile NFT artist Mike Winkelmann, aka Beeple, just can’t get a break from cyber criminals. This time, he found himself involved in another phishing scam.
Namely, a hacker modified Beeple’s links leading to his official Discord channel. When users followed the links, they entered a fraudulent Discord channel containing the Collab.Land bot. The bot asked the channel members to verify their accounts, but instead proceeded to steal funds from their wallets.
After the phishing scam was discovered, Beeple quickly reacted and fixed the issue. However, there’s still no information about the number of users who were affected nor the amount of money stolen.
Beeple is known for selling some of the most expensive NFTs. For instance, he received a whopping $69.3 million for his collection, First 5,000 Days.
The artist’s financial success has made him a frequent target of cybercriminals. In May, another phishing scam cost users some $430,000, this time on Twitter. And in November, he was falsely linked on Discord to an NFT drop, which made the scammers some $170,000. It’s not easy being Beeple.
