Mythical Games’ NFT game “NFL Rivals” surpassed 1 million downloads despite a tough market environment and the NFL’s off-season.
Debuting on Google Play and Apple Stores on April 26, NFL Rivals quickly gained a cult following and topped the App Store. Mythical Games CEO John Linden tweeted the screen at the time.

Linden told CoinDesk that while hitting milestones like one million downloads is exciting, he’s more interested in how well the game is received.
“It has a 4.8 out of 5 rating on the App Store and nearly 22,000 reviews.”
“Also, it’s exciting to see nearly two hours of gameplay per day per player. It’s great to see players really playing the game.”
Nearly 15 million games have already been played, with players averaging six games a day, according to other data provided by the company.
Players create teams using NFT player cards and fight the game. Each player card has a different rarity (rarity), from “Normal” to “Legend”, and is assigned different strengths and weaknesses.
Linden points out that most players are not aware that player cards are converted to NFTs, and that they can play the game without purchasing NFTs.
“Every player gets a wallet in-game, but most players probably don’t realize it’s a wallet until they start buying, selling, and trading on the marketplace.”
Linden estimates that about 10% of players use the marketplace to trade things like player cards released before the Super Bowl.
“What’s happening now is that players understand the concept that someone can give you $100 for a card they have, even if they’re not familiar with the concept of Web3.”
The NFL has partnered with Mythical Games to release its first Web3 game in May 2022, but that’s not the only Web3 entry. Polygon offers a “virtual commemorative ticket” collection platform for NFTs, and Dapper Labs operates “NFL All Day,” a marketplace for gaming video NFTs.
Mythical Games’ other products include the multiplayer game Blankos Block Party and the racing game Nitro Nation. The company is launching Mythical Marketplace 2.0 in January 2023.
