Popular sports apparel brand Nike has started recruiting personnel in the metaverse sector as it looks to expand its business in the nascent industry. The company has fast-tracked its entry into the metaverse ever since announcing the establishment of its own metaverse land “NIKELAND”.
According to a job posting on Nike’s official website, the apparel brand looks to hire “Director of Metaverse Engineering” to “lead the development of rapid end-to-end proof of concepts, prototypes, and production of Metaverse software and device solutions.”
The position requires eligible candidates to have familiarity with Metaverse technologies, such as web3 and spatial web, and knowledge of “blockchain ecosystems, technologies, and culture including DLTs, cryptocurrencies, NFTs, smart contracts, dApps, DAOs, wallets, and more.”
Apart from this position, Nike also posted metaverse-related job positions on LinkedIn over the weekend. Specifically, the company has been looking to hire a senior 3D game designer or metaverse engineer, expert innovation program manager for blockchain, a virtual material designer, as well as a principle innovation engineer for the metaverse.
Nike’s competitor Adidas is no further behind in the metaverse and NFT area. The sports clothing brand recently sold its first NFT collection for a whopping $23 million in collaboration with Bored Ape Yacht Club, Punks Comic, and GMoney.
