Donation activities using virtual currency
The Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2020 caused strong shaking with a seismic intensity of 7 and a magnitude of 7.6, causing tsunamis, landslides, and fires, causing significant damage in the affected areas.
In response to this situation, donation activities using crypto assets (virtual currency) have been established that take advantage of the transparency of public chains. The amount of donations can be confirmed through the published on-chain data, and as of the 4th, each project has received donations worth tens to millions of yen.
Relief activities using crypto assets have become a means of providing prompt aid to disaster-stricken areas. An example of this initiative is the joint campaign “#web3prayforjapan” by “PaletteChain” developed by HashPalette Inc. HashPalette is a consolidated subsidiary of HashPort Group, a regular member of the Japan Crypto Asset Business Association (JCBA).
Blockchain projects such as Palette, TRON, Cardano, Polygon, Neo, Qtum, Mask Network, and IOST are participating in this campaign, and each project has set up a donation window using their own native tokens.
After deducting gas charges and taxes, the crypto assets collected through this campaign will be converted into Japanese yen in full and donated to the Red Feather Community Chest’s “Relief Fund for the Noto Peninsula Earthquake (tentative) in 2020.” . The donation results will be published on HashPalette’s official website. The donation period will run until the end of January, and donations will be made and the results will be made public at the end of February. However, these plans may change depending on the circumstances of the disaster.
The remittance wallet addresses for each chain/crypto asset type are as follows. Please check the holder of each asset directly on the official page and copy and paste carefully.
Individual communities are also active
Meanwhile, the NPO NEM Technology Promotion Association NEMTUS began collecting emergency donations to support the disaster-affected areas on the morning of the 2nd. Donations are accepted in Symbol (XYM), NEM (XEM), and Japanese yen, and in the case of Symbol (XYM), a receipt can be issued after submitting a dedicated donation declaration form.
1/ In response to the 2020 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, Astar Foundation and Startale Labs have opened a cryptocurrency disaster relief fundraising page using Web3 technology. Since we created it immediately, we will accept donations in ASTR tokens. The advantage of Web3 is that donations can be made quickly from all over the world. We will do what we can. https://t.co/bL9xero5Fp pic.twitter.com/54lM6vcsR8
