Roadmap for 2023
Ontology, which develops distributed ID solutions and data-focused open source platforms focused on trust, privacy, and security, has released its roadmap for 2023 on the 23rd. It shows plans in three areas: technology, decentralized identity, and ecosystem.
It’s time to share the #Ontology 2023 roadmap with you all
This year the focus is on further optimizing the #Web3 infrastructure we have been developing, making it even easier for projects to choose to adopt the #OWNInfrastructure for their needs. https://t.co/SqasxOCp5P pic.twitter.com/Z97NITJyP7

Technology area roadmap
First of all, from the technical side, we will mainly proceed with the following items.
- Continue optimizing mainnet performance
- Node and user staking features and UI optimization
- Improved Ontology EVM Web3 interface
- Improve technical documentation and make it more developer friendly
- Focus on Layer 2 ecosystem, including tool development
- Extra security
- Adapt OWN infrastructure capabilities to the changing demands of Web3
Ontology’s proprietary token, ONT, grants token holders governance voting rights and the right to stake their tokens. In 2023, this staking function and user interface (UI) will evolve further.
ONT staking rewards will be delivered in a separate token called Ontology Gas (ONG). This ONG is the fee that runs the mainnet, and is also used when performing operations on the Ontology blockchain, such as smart contract execution and transaction issuance.
In 2022, Ontology will officially launch its own Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), ‘Ontology EVM Web3’.
It was developed with the aim of attracting thousands of developers on Ethereum to Ontology. By increasing interoperability between blockchains, developers can reduce migration costs, lower gas prices, and more.

The OWN infrastructure “Ontology Web3 Network” is also within the scope of the update. This infrastructure aims to provide multiple development tools in one place, with multi-language support and multi-chain/multi-asset support.
A Roadmap for the Decentralized Identity Space
In 2023, Ontology will further support the introduction of distributed identity (DID) and distributed data in various fields. It aims to further strengthen the protection of user privacy and information by integrating DID, data and reputation management functions.
What is Decentralized Identity
Decentralized ID means that you can prove and manage who you are, information about yourself, qualifications, etc. Points to a new type of ID.
Cryptocurrency Glossary
Ontology is in the process of providing its own decentralized ID, “ONT ID”. It is now open-sourced, and has added options such as KYC (identity verification), website login, and P2P (peer-to-peer) communication functions.
Mercedes-Benz Group, a major automobile manufacturer, is also jointly developing a service based on ONT ID, ‘Welcome Home’. It makes the driver’s in-car experience more personal and simplifies the management process.
Drivers can instantly verify their identities and inherit settings such as music, lighting and climate control when renting a car using their ID.
Ontology has also partnered with bloXmove, which develops blockchain for mobile services. We are making it possible to share driver’s licenses and other information in a highly anonymous manner.

Roadmap of the ecosystem area
Ontology will launch a developer fund worth $10 million in the form of its own token in 2022, coinciding with the launch of Ontology EVM. Participating projects will receive generous support from Ontology in terms of technology, marketing and business development.
In 2023, the process of joining this fund will be upgraded to be simpler, making it even easier for developers to develop on Ontology EVM.
In relation to developer support, in April 2022, we will hold an online hackathon jointly with the major developer community “Dora Hacks”, where NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and DAOs (autonomous decentralized organizations) will be held. Twenty-six projects working on various Web3 areas participated.
