OpenSea, the largest marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), announced that NFTs minted on the Solana (SOL/USD) blockchain will now be supported. OpenSea notes that Solana NFTs will be available in April, but it has not given a specific date.
OpenSea lists Solana NFTs
Solana is currently the second-largest network used for minting NFTs. Ethereum currently holds the top position. The NFT collections supported on the network have a market cap of $1.5 billion.
Last year, Solana became popular with NFTs after popular collections such as Degenerate Ape Academy, Solana Monkey Business, and Aurory were minted on the network. The Solana network has become increasingly popular among developers because it offers fast speeds and charges lower fees. This is a major benefit for the network compared to networks such as Solana.
The Solana Monkey Business NFT collection was among the platforms that tweeted their eagerness toward Solana NFT integration on OpenSea. Portals, a metaverse platform on the Solana blockchain, also tweeted that it “can’t wait for portals to be listed on OpenSea.”
Currently, OpenSea focuses on Ethereum NFTs, and its monthly trading volumes for these NFTs have been equal to billions of dollars. In January, NFT trading volumes on OpenSea surpassed $5 billion. This was a notable high, given that at the time, the rest of the crypto market was plunging. The same month, OpenSea raised $300M in a Series C funding round, bringing its valuation to $13.3 billion.
Leaks of Solana NFTs on OpenSea
OpenSea confirmed listing Solana NFTs after leaks were shared on social platforms. Jane Manchun Wong, a popular hacker and blogger, noted details about Solana and the Phantom wallet on the OpenSea site.
Earlier this week, the hacker noted that the date of when the Solana NFTs would debut on OpenSea was near. She said that she had discovered a “Solana Beta” logo on the marketplace and support for the Solflare wallet. Other users said that they could link their Phantom wallets to OpenSea.
After these leaks, OpenSea posted a teaser showing the most popular NFTs on Solana. These NFTs include the Degenerate Ape Academy, Solana Monkey Business, Aurory, etc.
