Opera has announced an integration with DeversiFi, a StarkWare-powered solution, with which Opera for Android becomes the first mobile browser to feature an Ethereum Layer-2 wallet, Invezz learned from a press release first posted on Crypto Daily.

Millions of Opera users access DeFi

Following the integration, millions of Opera users will access DeFi and benefit from low-cost, near-instant transactions without having to share personal data. This is possible due to DeversiFi’s decentralized exchange.

DeFi’s popularity and the growth of NFTs have led to much higher transaction fees on Ethereum (ETH/USD). Opera’s integration with an L2 scaling solution lets Opera users send and receive ETH for less and faster via p2p transactions and an L2 exchange feature.

Cofounder and CEO of DeversiFi Will Harborne stated:

Through this integration, the everyday Opera user is able to seamlessly interact with DeFi on a user-friendly interface and experience a completely new way to interact with financial services. Layer 2 technologies are revolutionizing the blockchain industry, and we are proud to be working with Opera to bring our frictionless, low-cost gas-free trading solution, combined with StarkEx’s scalability benefits, to their millions of users. Integrating our DeFi infrastructure in this way is just the start and is tipping the scales of mainstream adoption of Layer 2.

Opera’s EVP Mobile Jurgen Arnesen added:

It’s part of Opera’s DNA to make accessing the web easier. We have been providing extreme data savings, privacy, or ad-blocking features to our users around the globe. Now it’s time to remove one of the key hurdles associated with the use of web3: exorbitant gas fees and slow network speeds.

Instant transactions with StarkEx scalability engine

StarkWare’s scalability engine renders L2 transactions near-instant. Moreover, they’re almost a hundred times cheaper than ETH L1 transactions. The integration allows Opera to introduce its users to instant trading while eliminating unreasonably high transaction fees.

Taking crypto mainstream

Opera is a leading proponent of taking crypto mainstream. They introduced the first browser with a built-in crypto wallet and decentralized application (dApp) explorer in 2018. They also launched a project called Crypto Browser, which is a Web 3 browsing experience that will also integrate layer-2 solutions.
