From now on, citizens of the Mendoza province in Argentina have the option of paying their taxes with cryptocurrency.
For this purpose, citizens are offered the choice between two stablecoins – Tether’s USDT and MakerDAO’s DAI.
Taxpayers can use digital wallets to scan a special QR code received at ATM sites. In this way, stablecoins are converted into pesos and citizens get a receipt for the taxpaying transaction.
According to the Mendoza Tax Administration spokesperson, this innovation is introduced as the province is looking to modernize its way of functioning. With some two million residents of the Mendoza province, that’s a lot of people who can now integrate crypto into their taxpaying activities.
