Solana Mobile begins pre-sale of new smartphone “Chapter 2” Orders can also be made in Japan

On the 17th, Solana Mobile, a smartphone subsidiary under Solana Lab, began pre-selling its second generation smartphone, Chapter 2. Foreign media reported on the 16th that a new model following the first generation “Saga” will be announced soon.

Pre-sales for “Chapter 2” are limited in quantity, but unlike Saga, orders are also accepted from countries outside of North America and Europe, such as Japan. Pre-sale is divided into three stages, currently in the “Founder’s Window” with a price of $450 (66,267 yen). This price excludes shipping charges.

After the founder window, there will be an “early adopter window” and a “supporter window,” but it is not clear whether the prices are the same.

Chapter 2 is priced lower than Saga (originally $1,000), which was $600. The official statement states, “At Solana Mobile, we are committed to bringing Web3 to more users by making it more affordable and globally accessible.”

Additionally, this sale introduces a new mechanism called referral leaderboard. When you purchase through a referral link of a user who has already purchased from another user, you earn points and may receive future rewards from ecosystem partners.

Presence or absence of Genesis token

The most interesting point in Chapter 2 is whether or not “Genesis Tokens” will be granted.

Genesis tokens are SBT tokens (non-transferable NFTs) that are dependent on Saga devices, and airdrops such as Bonk and SagaMonke so far have been conditional on holding Genesis tokens.

In the FAQ for the new model, the official company said about Genesis Tokens, “Saga/Genesis Tokens, together with the Solana dApp Store, will enable a unique token/NFT acquisition experience and create an unparalleled community-based distribution channel.” Although Saga Genesis Tokens are only available on Saga devices, there is a huge appetite for leveraging this mechanism to acquire users, and we hope to take this experience even further in Chapter 2. “We are thinking about it,” he said, hinting at the introduction of Genesis tokens.
