A dog-themed meme coin seems to have revived sales of Solana’s Saga smartphone.
On the online marketplace eBay, several Saga units are selling for more than $2,000 (approximately 290,000 yen, equivalent to 140 yen per dollar). Most of these phones are listed as “new and unopened,” and the sellers are primarily American.
Some of the coins were sold for as high as $5,000 (approximately 725,000 yen), The Block reported.
Solana’s Saga sales picked up last week as some arbitrage traders appeared to be targeting the 30 million BONK airdrop that will be distributed to all smartphone owners. The airdrop was worth more than $700 (about 98,000 yen) at its peak last week, compared to a $599 (about 84,000 yen) smartphone.
In early November, the dog-themed BONK quickly gained popularity among blockchain users, with one day seeing a spike of 110% in 24 hours, and a 30-day increase of over 700%. Ta.
As a result, the fortunes of Saga, whose future was uncertain due to disappointing sales, appear to have improved.
“We don’t really know yet whether it’s attractive enough to sell 50,000 units,” Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko said in an interview at the time. . “I think we need 25,000 to 50,000 units before developers feel compelled to release their applications.”
The smartphone was first released earlier this year, and its price was reduced from $1,000 to $599 in August.
Saga has since sold out in the United States and the European Union, Solana co-founder Raj Gokal said on December 15.Posted on X (old Twitter).
