Game console giant Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a patent for the exchange of NFTs between different games and game consoles.

A patent filed last week says it will allow players like the company’s flagship PlayStation to play interoperable Web3 games. This means that NFTs can be transferred between devices such as VR headsets, tablets, computers and smartphones.

The application also states, “For example, NFTs can be used across generations (for example, from PS4 to PS5).” It also aims to enable interoperability between products outside Sony’s ecosystem, such as the Xbox and “cloud-based video games,” allowing NFTs to be transferred and used across different gaming ecosystems.

Sony has recently made moves to deepen partnerships and test blockchain-based products to increase its presence on Web3.

In November 2022, the company announced a motion-tracking wearable that allows gamers to use their bodies to control avatars in real time.
