Splinterlands’  Waka Flocka NFT Sells Out In 30 Seconds

Splinterlands, one of the most popular blockchain games, has announced that its latest NFT drop featuring US rapper Waka Flocka Flame, sold out in just 30 seconds.

Dubbed “Waka Spiritblade”, the NFT comes with added power through “a legendary 3-cost death summoner.” Players will have the chance to exploit its poison ability on enemy monsters, with a 50% more chance of success.

According to Splinterlands, the Waka Flocka NFT was launched in collaboration with wearable NFTs platform Loka.

The release comes out at a time Splinterlands has seen a huge interest in non-fungible token collections due to its unique style, which sees NFTs take on extra utility outside the game.

Make it a wearable NFT on Snapchat

Loka’s participation in the drop means Waka Flocka NFTs collectors can draw double benefits from the tokens. In one of the use cases, NFT holders can leverage their items in-game as “playable summoner cards.”

Other than that, one has the chance to use their Waka Flocka NFTs on Snapchat as wearable NFTs.

Dr. Jesse “Aggroed” Reich, the co-founder and CEO of Splinterlands said that the NFTs space is a highly promising industry, with users getting ‘true digital ownership’. But he believes the space needs more than just that to truly benefit players.

In his view, there needs to be an opportunity for players to access not just in-game assets purchases, but also find value by being able to sell the assets outside the game.

This is just one of the first examples of the promising future that will radically change the value proposition for gamers,” said Dr. Jesse “Aggroed” Reich, the co-founder and CEO of Splinterlands.

Loak’s Jacob Safar said the partnership provides a fundamental step towards its entry into the play-to-earn ecosystem.

1000 NFT copies, 500 sold

During the sale, Splinterlands released 500 NFTs, with the offering set in two versions- regular and gold. This first lot consisted of 480 regular and 20 gold foil cards, the press release shared with Invezz stated.

The other half of the 1000 NFT collection is set for a later release and will be available on Splinterlands’ AtomicHub storefront.

There are two ways to lay your hands on the NFT- buy it in-game (which is what happened in the first phase of the sale) or get it from an external account.

Purchases can be made using SPS, the native token on the card game. As of writing, the SPS value was $0.122 that currently trades about 5% down amid a broader crypto market swoon.
