Taiko, a provider of Layer 2 (L2) scaling solutions for the Ethereum blockchain, announced on the 15th that it has launched a testnet called Katla.
Taiko is working on zkEVM, a type of zero-knowledge proof (ZK) rollup, and according to the release, Katla features “Multi-Proofs” that supports both Optimistic Rollup and zkRollup. This will be the last testnet before the mainnet launch, which is scheduled for this year.
Katla will be testing a new design called “Based Contestable Rollup (BCR),” which combines the benefits of Optimistic Rollup (such as simplicity and low cost) with the benefits of zkRollup (such as security and short finality times).
