Taproot Wizards, the Bitcoin Ordinals project, has postponed the publication of its Quantum Cats collection for the third time. The initiative has garnered attention, but it has caused further confusion.
Originally scheduled for January 29th
After the sale of Ordinals’ NFT-like digital art series scheduled for January 29th was hampered by technical issues, Taproot paused the process, promising to resume in 24 hours. . However, this plan was quickly scrapped as it was preferable to postpone the sale until February 1st. Furthermore, late on January 31st, the night before the reopening, it was announced that the event would be postponed again until February 5th.
Approximately 3,000 cats are scheduled to be sold at a fixed price of 0.1 BTC each, so in theory there is a possibility of sales of approximately 12 million dollars (approximately 1.74 billion yen, equivalent to 145 yen to the dollar) from this sale. . This easily exceeds the $7.5 million in investor funding Taproot raised last year.
Additional testing on the publishing site
Taproot Wizards explains that they underestimated the community’s demand for purchasing Quantum Cats. The person in charge is X (formerly Twitter), who said the “issue” on the publishing site has been fixed, but more time is needed for additional testing “to ensure no other unknown bugs are discovered on publication day.” he posted.
“The website where the publication was made simply did not perform as well as it should have,” the post said, “Ultimately it is our responsibility and we should have done it right from the beginning.”
Ordinals has some criticism
A year after its introduction, Bitcoin’s Ordinals protocol has caused quite a stir, both good and bad. Allowing NFTs to be issued and stored on the Bitcoin blockchain in a manner similar to other blockchains such as Ethereum introduces utility that was previously lacking.
However, some Bitcoin purists believe that Ordinals simply caused unnecessary congestion on the network and detracted from the blockchain’s original mission of being a P2P payment network.
