Professional football club Manchester United FC has confirmed its partnership with Tezos blockchain in a press release issued Thursday. The official announcement comes a few days after sports media house The Athletic first reported the deal.
The multi-year deal comprises Tezos incorporating its logo in the training kit and uniform worn by the first-team squad before the weekend match against Southampton. While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the official press release, previous reports suggested the deal was closed at $27M (£20 million).
In addition to logo advertising, both parties will work together to offer several new fan experiences built on the Tezos blockchain and provide support to the Manchester United Foundation via donations in Tez, Tezos’ native currency.
Edward Adlard, Head of Adoption and Business Development, Tezos Ecosystem said:
“Throughout its history, Manchester United has constantly evolved, with the support of its huge and diverse global community of fans and partners. Tezos will enable Manchester United to use blockchain and Web3 to transform fan, player, team, and partner engagement.
