Timothy Massad, Former chairman of the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has expressed concerns that stablecoins are not receiving the regulatory attention they require. In an interview with CNBC, Massad said the tokens represent a bridge between the “crypto world and the real world” and should not be viewed as simply a fad. Governments must acknowledge that the risks of stablecoins are significant and address them, he added. Massad also said stablecoins could enable faster payment systems in the US and urged improvements to banking operating systems in response to this potential threat.
