War on the land, in the sky, and in the metaverse. A new guerrilla force has emerged in Ukraine as Ukrainian soldiers try to repel attacks by Russian occupiers in Kyiv, Kharkov, Mariupol, and other cities: an IT army.
Before the war, IT specialists were working on code and in crypto startups and trading. Now, they have launched the Make Peace Donations (MPD) collection to help civilians and the army win the war. It is comprised of NFTs and digital wearables.
Food, medicine, bulletproof vests, drones, imagers
Make Peace Donations has five NFT categories: food, medical kits, bulletproof vests, drones, and thermal imagers. These are the things Ukrainians need most now.
When someone buys an NFT, the funds are donated to charity. The process is completely transparent via smart contracts. NFT prices start from 0.05 ether (ETH/USD).
No centrally organized food and water supply
The number of civilians without access to food and water is increasing. Supply of food and water is organized on a voluntary basis.
Dire need of medicine
Russian forces bombed a children’s hospital in Mariupol despite the ceasefire deal, injuring pregnant women and destroying property.
Bulletproof vests
Data from OHCHR shows 364 civilians have died since the war started, including 25 children. The number of people injured is 759. A bulletproof vest costs $500.
Drones can track sabotage attempts
Drones can be extremely useful. It can detect signs of Russian invaders, track sabotage attempts, and prevent death from missiles.
Thermal imaging
Last but not least, Russian forces are active night and day. Ukraine needs more thermal imagers to detect their movements.
Some of the NFT collections, of which there are more than 30, have already been sold. One was sold for $1 million. The funds have been donated to charities.
Support from all sides
Decentraland (MANA/USD) is also involved in the fundraising campaign. Its WonderZone Amusement Park created some Ukraine editions of the latest wearables, which were sold to the WonderMine field.
The startup DRESSX introduced a collection “Support Ukraine” in the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
