Ukraine to release ‘war museum’ like NFT collection: report

The Ukrainian government is planning to launch an NFT collection featuring news headlines and stories on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. In an interview with The Guardian, Ukrainian deputy minister of digital transformation, Alex Bornyakov, commented that the NFT will be “like a museum of the Russian-Ukrainian war.”

The government previously planned an airdrop of cryptocurrencies in a bid to accelerate donations from the crypto community. However, Ukrainian vice prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov later tweeted that the government has decided to cancel the airdrop and said, “Instead, we will announce NFTs to support Ukrainian Armed Forces soon.”

Likely acting on the aforementioned statement, the country will launch the NFT collection depicting news stories from trusted sources. Specific details such as the date and time of the release have not been revealed. “We want it to be cool, good-looking, and it takes time,” Bornyakov told the news outlet.

Ukraine has been accepting donations in the form of cryptocurrencies ever since Russia invaded the country on February 23. In total, the country has received more than $100 million in cryptocurrency donations, with over 60% of them going to wallet addresses provided by the government.

Crypto communities from all over the world have also donated cryptocurrencies to various NGOs such as Come Back Alive, UkraineDAO, and The Kyiv Independent. The government Ethereum wallet address also received a CryptoPunk worth $200,000 from an unknown account.

Bornyakov acknowledged the support provided by the crypto community, tweeting that the funds raised are being used to provide thousands of bulletproof vests, packed lunches, medicine items, and other supplies to the military.
