US Coinbase to offer message function in wallet

Partnered with XMTP to provide messaging service

Major US crypto asset (virtual currency) exchange Coinbase has partnered with XMTP, a startup company that provides a Web3 messaging function, to introduce a messaging service to Coinbase Wallet.

Today we’re thrilled to announce that @CoinbaseWallet has added encrypted messaging in-app using XMTP!

This milestone marks the first major wallet to build in secure messaging as a first-class feature.

Coinbase Wallet is a self-custody wallet.

The messaging service now allows the use of human-readable Ethereum addresses, including long-string wallet addresses as well as those powered by the Ethereum Name Service (ENS).

Since 2022, Coinbase has partnered with Ethereum Name Service (ENS) on its wallet.

Users can use the wallet to communicate with other users, send tokens of various denominations, and have conversations on other XMTP compatible apps. You can also send USD coins (USDC) with no network fees.

Messages on the wallet are end-to-end encrypted to protect privacy.
